Sports Memory--When You Lost the Point

Please write about a time when you were playing any kind of sport or game that you were not very good at playing. How did the game go for you? How was your own performance and how did you feel about it after the point was lost? Did you want to keep playing the game? In the end was the entire game won or lost? How did your coach treat you and/or members of the other team?

Remember we have all lost at some time so it is OK to share moments when we have not done our best at even if it was a video game. Others will see what you post so use wisdom in what you write. These will not just be seen by me. I will share my own experience with you too.

  1. I used to play ping pong with my dad in the basement when we lived in Cincinnati, Ohio when I was in junior high. It seemed like he always won; well now that I think back I think he did. He would spin the ball so I could not return his serve and it was really fast. I could not return it. It made me really mad. The only good thing was that there was no one watching when we played. Not only did I lose the point, I also would lose the point and I would just sort of give up and lose the entire game. He would always psyche me out in junior high. He would laugh, but sometimes he would tell me to concentrate and try harder. It was many years before I learned not to give up when I was down and to make a come back and to try extra hard. I discovered that getting mad when I was losing just made things worse. I learned not to let people psyche me out and to keep my head cool and calm. Now I can see it is just a game, but in real life I try extra hard when things are not going my way.
